Baronda eyes affordable housing, livelihood projects in Iloilo

More affordable housing projects and livelihood programs are being lined up for Iloilo City next year, according to Rep. Julienne Baronda.

Baronda said she recently met with officials of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Housing Authority (NHA), and Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) to discuss possible projects for 2027.

Among those discussed were the ongoing and planned Iloilo City People Residences, which will provide housing for teachers, government employees and families from the informal sector.

Baronda said the group also discussed efforts to help residents of the Pacific Village community secure ownership of their lots.

She said the goal is to provide housing that is affordable and accessible while also giving residents opportunities to improve their livelihood.

Agricultural programs were also included in the discussions, particularly urban agriculture projects that could help increase food production and provide livelihood opportunities in barangays.

Baronda said the housing and agriculture programs would require coordination among national agencies and local stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by regional officials and technical teams from DHSUD, NHA, DA and SHFC.
