Ilonggos not buying Guanzon’s 2028 pitch?

Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Rowena Guanzon may have a tough sell in Iloilo if her recent visit is any indication.

Iloilo-based artist Rock Drilon said Guanzon appeared to have underestimated Ilonggo voters when she visited the province to introduce herself as an Ilonggo and seek support for a possible Senate run in 2028.

Guanzon also paid a courtesy call on the sitting mayor during her visit and invoked the names of homegrown former senators Miriam Defensor and Franklin Drilon as she made her pitch to locals.

But according to Rock, the response online suggested that Guanzon’s approach did not sit well with many Ilonggos.

“Well, by reading the reactions and comments of netizens to the reports of traditional community media posted in social media, looks like she underestimated the intelligence of the Ilonggos,” Rock said in a Facebook post.

He said Guanzon was subjected to a barrage of criticism from netizens following reports about her Iloilo visit.

“She got what she deserves—this time she was berated big time online. Pinagpiyestahan ng katakot-takot na insulto—brutal,” Rock said.

He ended his post with a jab in Hiligaynon. “Abi niya seguro mainto niya ang mga Ilonggo.”
